KINVARA 10 VS 11 PLUS

The PWRRUN foam continues to provide the balance of responsiveness and cushion, plus there is an additional 5.5 millimeters of foam in the latest version. While I didn’t run a lot in the Kinvara 10, I did a couple of runs (not really enough to merit a shoe review). To be honest, it doesn’t feel like there is that much of a difference in the ride between the two foams. To get technical with you, the PWRRUN foam midsole replaced the EVA+ midsole of previous versions. The foam used in the Saucony Kinvara 11 has gotten an update. If the Kinvara were made in wide, I would have probably chosen a 10.5 wide. I found the Saucony Kinvara 11 size 11 fit true to size. In running shoes, I generally wear between a women’s size 10-11 wide. They did that is almost noticeable to remove the center shoe eyelet, which honestly makes the Kinvara just fit better. Saucony removed the stitched overlays at the top three shoe eyelet. If, for whatever reason, I bought them the day before a marathon, I know I could race a marathon in them and be fine. I’ve always appreciated the Saucony Kinvara fits well and doesn’t need any break-in period. Generally speaking, it still fits the same. Most of the updates to the fit of the Saucony Kinvara 11 are in the details. Oftentimes, Saucony shoes feel to low in the back, and you feel like you’re “slipping out,” but the Kinvara doesn’t have that issue. I appreciate the Kinvara is the slightly higher heel cup than the rest of Saucony’s line. There isn’t much as far as printed overlays. In fact, the upper is really just engineered woven mesh. The Saucony Kinvara 11 has always been a more minimal shoe in terms of seams and upper.

One of my favorite features of the Saucony Kinvara 11 has always been fit. The ride is still fairly soft, but there have been some updates to the midsole and the upper. It does keep most of the same features as the Kinvara 10 as well. I’ve tried on most versions, and the Saucony Kinvara 11 feels similar to the Kinvara 10. In fact, the last time I consistently ran in, it was the Saucony Kinvara 7. It’s been a few years since I’ve run in the shoe. Saucony is offering the shoe in both a modern color scheme and a throwback edition, featuring the bold white, red, and black color scheme that launched the original model.Recently I decided to try the Saucony Kinvara 11. “I had forgotten to put newspaper in to soak up some moisture,” said one tester, “but by morning, they were essentially dried out already.” The rest of our testers were blown away by the quick-drying, dirt-shedding upper. My feet survived 100 miles of testing, including one marathon, without suffering any blisters. These assist in keeping your heel locked down and over the platform on sharp turns.Ī Goldilocks wrap from the flexible, breathable engineered mesh upper keeps the rest of your foot secure on the the durable midsole. The Kinvara incorporates a design we’ve been seeing more frequently in heel collars, with thumb-sized cushions positioned on either side of the heel. That’s not to say the shoe is a complete cloud, either-the flexibility underfoot and the light weight put it in position to help runners chip away at their existing PRs in distances from 5K to the marathon. Your heel won’t sink into the shoe with each step like the Hoka One One Clifton 5, but some testers wanted it to have a firmer, more responsive ride. The cushioning falls on the spectrum between the soft Brooks Ghost 11 and the slightly stiffer Nike Zoom Pegasus 35. Our testers were torn on this design they loved gliding through training runs and tempo days, though the grooves in the foam were susceptible to hitchhiking rocks and wore down more quickly than outsoles with greater rubber coverage. To keep it light and snappy, Saucony has shed unnecessary weight underfoot by using an exposed EVA foam outsole with minimal rubber. Or maybe you need a neutral cushioned everyday trainer with a breathable upper? The Kinvara’s EVA-and-Everun midsole will be your trusty companion for the next couple hundred miles.Īt 7.8 ounces, it’s one of the lightest everyday training shoes on store shelves. Need a racing shoe that’ll deliver without taking out a second mortgage? It’s capable, just ask Jared Ward who casually dropped a 2:09 at Boston while sporting the fast-selling Dunkin’-printed model. Like any good track workout, a run in the Kinvara is what you make of it. The 10th iteration may not recreate the magic of last year’s Editor’s Choice-winning model, but it’s still a worthy successor. The king of the lightweight trainers, Saucony’s Kinvara has won multiple Runner’s World awards over its lifespan. The foam midsole is soft yet responsive for speed workouts.Testers wished there was more rubber underfoot. The engineered mesh was universally loved for its comfortable fit.The RW Takeaway: A mix of EVA and Everun foams provide a soft landing for this speedy training shoe.
